Gozo Welcomes Nearly 225,000 Tourists in September, Over 1.6 Million So Far This Year!
New data from the National Statistics Office shows that Gozo’s popularity is soaring, with close to 225,000 tourists visiting the island in September alone. That’s right – just last month, thousands of visitors flocked to Gozo, some for a quick day trip and others for a longer stay, filling our island with excitement and activity.
And this impressive number isn’t just a one-month wonder. Over the first nine months of 2024, Gozo has welcomed more than 1.6 million tourists, enjoying everything from the iconic Ġgantija Temples and the inviting waters of Ramla Bay to the island’s delicious pastizzi.
For perspective, across Malta, we recorded a remarkable 361,015 visitors in September – a 20.7% increase from the same period last year. Nearly half of these travelers hailed from the UK, Italy, and France. To our friends from across Europe, we say, “Welcome!”
Many of these visitors stayed overnight, contributing to a whopping 2.4 million guest nights just in September and nearly 17.9 million since the start of the year. It’s safe to say that Gozo and Malta are becoming a home away from home for so many.
And beyond the wonderful energy and excitement, these tourists have made a valuable contribution to our local economy. Total tourism spending so far has reached an incredible €2.6 billion, with an average spend of about €926 per person – going towards our local food, experiences, and services.
Gozo’s rise as a prime destination is something we’re all proud of. With more visitors, more joy, and more opportunities to share our culture, it’s clear that Gozo is shining brighter than ever. So, if you’re planning a trip, don’t wait too long – we’re a popular place these days!
